About
Hiroko Washiyama is an insurance and GenAI specialist with over 14 years of experience at Nomura Research Institute, where she led innovation, digital strategy, and AI initiatives for major insurers in Japan and internationally.
Her background includes hands-on experience within leading insurance organizations, including secondments to Nippon Life and an international assignment with Tokio Marine in Shanghai. This has given her a deep understanding of insurance operations across markets.
Now based in Frankfurt, Hiroko focuses on the structural differences between Japan and Europe, analyzing how regulation, data environments, and operating models shape the real-world application of AI in insurance.
Her work goes beyond efficiency gains, examining how AI reveals and transforms the underlying logic of decision-making within organizations.
In her role as Executive Fellow, Hiroko will contribute perspectives on AI in insurance, underwriting transformation, and governance, supporting organizations in navigating complexity and building robust, future-ready operating models.
